Motor failure can be caused by a variety of things:
  • the windings short circuit
  • the windings open circuit or
  • the motor develops an earth leakage problem.

Repairs to the motor consist of stripping back, re-insulating and rewinding the coils to the original specifications.

Most repairs consist of spot welding the connections onto the commutator, re-balancing and varnishing to hold the windings in place and provide insulation.
